Russia has its fair share of renowned tennis players that can put a storm to shame when they grace the courts, so why shouldn’t it have a tennis tournament in its capital city too? The answer, of course, is why not! Starting out as a male-only event when it began in 1990, the Kremlin Cup opened its courts up to the prowess of women in 1996 and, as well as being the country’s first international professional tennis tournament, it is also one of Moscow’s most significant sporting events. The tournament, which has taken place on covered courts at the Olympic Stadium since its first year, also has the distinction of being the premier of the Women’s Tennis Association Tour. At the Kremlin Cup, you will not only get the chance to watch established, world famous tennis stars, but also get to preview some of the stars of the future. We can’t let you go without also mentioning that the name of the tournament originally came from a palace whose magnificent architecture is etched into our dreams - the Kremlin Palace.
